SI Journal Digest
Greetings,
AEE is currently working on many issues ranging from Pandemic Recognition Pay to the getting the AEE 2021-2023 Collective Bargaining Contract printed.
As part of the effort to staying connected with the AEE Collective Bargaining unit, AEE is restarting the quarterly SI Journal in a new virtual format to inform AEE members about the AEE Board and issues that you care about. There will also be periodic digest issues of the SI Journal released throughout the year to keep members informed about collective bargaining topics.
Digest: Article 10.1 Holidays (Article 10.1 Holidays)
Modifications:
Section 1 - New paid holiday, Juneteenth on June 19th.
Section 2 – The eight (8) hours of paid leave are now considered as a floating holiday. The employee can request to use the floating holiday on any workday during the calendar year.
This floating holiday must be used by the end of the calendar year, or it will be lost. This is different from previous contracts which required the day to be used between Thanksgiving and January 31.
Background: These eight (8) hours of paid leave have historically been referred as Governor’s Day by the agencies and the pay code used is GL. In reality, this is not (and has not been) a day proclaimed by the Governor as a paid holiday, as that would fall under Section 1 (L). During the 2021 – 2023 collective bargaining, AEE made the effort to clarify this misunderstanding by adding language referring to the eight (8) hours of paid leave as a floating holiday.
Intent: Employees are to use the floating holiday once per calendar year, on a day of their choice as approved by their manager.
Don’t forget to use your floating holiday! You may request your floating holiday on any workday during the calendar year ending December 31, 2021.
