AEE Updates

Layoffs: Layoff bumping is proceeding. This is not an easy process for our members that will be receiving calls. Continue to have patience and grace to those going through the process. AEE is here to help with the process and we continue to try to meet with Human Resources to make sure they are following appropriate processes. If you are bumped, you will get a layoff notice from HR and have 10 Calendar Days to submit your option ranking. Please keep the AEE office apprised if you are impacted, as we likely won’t get the information from the Agency.

SEIU Rally: AEE is working with SEIU to join them at their Special Session Rally August 29th at the Capitol. The current plan is to rally at 7am, then go into the Capitol at 8am to show support to passing the funding package. Opportunity to lobby your representative will be available. Not able to attend? Write or call your representative if you haven’t already. Find your representative here: https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/FindYourLegislator/districts-initial.html

Bargaining: Bargaining is ongoing, with two sessions planned this week. You may be wondering what the hangup is given SEIU and AFSCME main tables have settled. Our contract differs from theirs in several aspects. These differences are impacting how we are approaching the State’s proposal to changes to how they pay employees. We want to protect our contract by not giving up rights to bargaining various pieces around pay. We have come to agreement on many of the open articles, and are down to a few articles – primarily the pay structure and economics package.

Classification Appeals: Engineering Classification appeals are now at ODOT Classification and Compensation for review. Those that are denied can proceed to a committee as outlined in Article 8.4, Section 2. AEE is already preparing for that committee by reaching out to DAS. If you receive a denial, it is important to contact the AEE office right away as there is only 15 days to move the next appeal to the committee. According to Article 8.4, Section 2 the Association moves the appeal forward on behalf of the employee. AEE also continues to handle personal grievances and disciplinary actions and day to day business. We’ve had a lot going on in a short period of time. We appreciate the communication we receive from everyone – active members keep the association strong!

In unity,

-AEE
